The bar is 3.0 ft long and has an aluminum cross section measuring 2" by 1". A tensile force of 5000 lbs is applied to the bar. I want to say the formula to solve the strain part is Strain = (Force)(Length of object)/(Area of object)(Modulus of elasticity).
The answer i got was .000238in for strain.
Anyone have any idea if thats right or anything about elongation?
