The body typically loses water through exhaled breath, urine, faces & sweating. While yes osmosis would occur this would constantly remove water from the body cells to maintain equilibrium. Eventually the cells would loose their water content to such an extent that the cells start to malfunction and cease to work. By consumption of water this does not happen.

The water you drink is not the same water in your cells. The water that enters your cells through osmosis comes from saturated fats (yes, saturated!). The water you drink is excreted primarily as urine and taxes your kidneys. That's why drinking water is considered dehydrating in Chinese medicine.
