Why is the transfer of authority in societies governed by traditional and rational-legal authority more stable than those governed by charismatic leaders?

In traditional systems of government, there is an orderly succession of heirs, usually based on heredity. In a rational-legal system, written law provides the process by which a leader is chosen. Charismatic authority is based on personal qualities of the leader with no rules of succession.   
Biology - The only science where multiplication and division mean the same thing.
