I'm taking a Sociology 101 class at college and I missed a lecture day regarding this topic.
We're talking about Durkheim, social solidarity and suicide.
I just need at answer this question "Why was suicide rising in the 19th century in Europe?"
In about 100 words.

P.S. I got lecture notes from a classmate and they were useless...

Any help appreciated, thanks!

The 19th century represents a massive paradigm shift from an old, more agriculture-based form of life into an industrialized, more technologically based world that not only resulted in massive layoffs but also created deep sense of alienation and estrangement. Too much was happening too fast that a lot of people simply couldn't adapt and hence chose to end their lives.
