5x - 3y = 4
3x - 5y = -4
15x - 9y = 12
15x - 25y = -20
16y = 32
y = 2
x = 2

Multiply the first equation by 3 and the second by 5 to get
15x - 9y = 12
15x - 25y = -20
We now have the same number of x's in both equations and can therefore 'eliminate' x and then solve the system of equations
The first equation minus the second equation gives
16y = 32
and y = 2
Substitute this value for y into the first equation
5x-3*2=4
and 5x = 106, hence x = 2
Check the solution using the second equation
3*2 - 5*2 = 6 - 10 = -4, so check looks good
x=2, y=2 is the answer
