The Carbon in the CO2 gas absorbed by the leaf is combined with the hydrogen from water to form complex sugars ad the left over oxygen is sent through the cell wall outside the leaf

Photosynthesis is the process by which plants use CO2 and H2O to produce sugars.  There is oxygen in both the water and the carbon dioxide - extra Oxygen in fact, which is released as O2, since oxygen can't exist as single atoms: it always combines with other atoms and is never found in nature in a monatomic (single atom) state.

The electron transport system is responsible for the production of O2. In photosystem II, I think. Its a start at least its been a while.
