Full question:
When 2-methylpropene is bubbled into dilute sulfuric acid at room temp, it appears to dissolve.  What new substance has been formed?

I think that water forms but i'm not sure what else? any help would be great =]
so then the reaction forms water, which reacts with the substance to form t-butanol as well?

the result is addition of water across the double bond to form t-butanol.The addition of the water that is acid catalyzed follows makovnikov's rule such that the more stable carbonium ion is formed which then is attacked by the water molecule , loses a proton and forms t-butanol ( 2-methyl 2-propanol)

CH2=CH(CH3)-CH3  + H+/H2O-----    (CH3)3-C-OH
