when a particle of mass with a velocity v and kinetic energy E split into two parts, what will be the kinetic energy distribution of the splitted masses? Let's say, the mass of original partilce was M and the splitted masses are M1 and M2, where M1>M2..... I want to know the expression for the "kinetic energy" of M1 and M2.

as far as i know such problems,there are two basic laws to consider which are:-
1:the law of conservation of energy that total energy before the impact equals to the total energy after the impact.
2:the law of conservation of linear momentum that total momentum before the impact equals to the total momentum after the impact.
Now basing on the two laws we get two basic equations which are:-
E=E1+E2 and Mv=M1v1+M2v2. the kinetic energy formula is 1/2mv^2. Try to end it yourself,it is not tough from here.
