2,3,4 -- The theorist Bowlby believes that a person needs to work through the three phases of grief before being able to move beyond the grief process. These three phases are protest, despair, and detachment. The patient’s responses indicate she has acknowledged the event. Denial is associated with feelings of disbelief.
