3 -- Bargaining is an attempt to postpone the reality of the loss. Often, the family or friend of the dying patient tries to make a bargain with someone to gain time or a change in the outcome. In the denial phase, there is a lack of acknowledgement and acceptance of the impending loss. During the anger phase, the individual resists the loss and expresses fury. Acceptance refers to the individual’s coming to terms with the loss.
