1 -- Genetic studies have been performed that suggest heredity plays a role in the development of alcoholism. Since the patient was adopted, the patient’s biological parents may have abused alcohol. There is not enough information to support that the patient is spending time drinking with friends or the patient is consuming alcohol as a symptom of stress. There is also not enough evidence to support this patient’s alcohol use as being a learned behavior.
