Future-oriented activities take place to prevent subsequent disasters or to minimize their effects. Nurses participate by attending meetings to discuss suggestions to improve the response time to victims or ways to improve the treatment of victims faster and more effectively. The recovery aspect of disaster response is also called reconstruction. Restoration includes rebuilding, replacing lost or damaged property, returning to school and work, and continuing life without those who were killed in the disaster. Reconstitution occurs when the life of the community returns to a new “normal.” Rehabilitation is not a phase when recovering from a disaster.
