let x = Elisa's age
x+6 = Elisabeth's age

2(x + x + 6) = 40

solve for x:
2x + 6 = 20
2x = 14
x = 7

They are 7 and 13 years of age.

that's it! Wink Face

Ezisabeth is 13, and Elisa is 7

13-7 = 6
13 + 7 = 20
20 * 2 = 40

elisabeth = 6 + elisa
40 = 2(elisabeth + elisa)
20 = elisabeth + elisa
elisabeth = (20 - elisa)

20 - elisa = 6 + elisa
-2elisa = -14
elisa = 7
elisabeth = 13

half of 40 is 20 and then it would be 2x+6=20 then solve and get 7 and 13
