Even though NaOH is much cheaper and readily available. . .

Here's what I think..both are considered strong bases but if you want to take something into space you may want to take something that is lighter and at the same time you can take more. 1 mole LiOH is about 24g/mol while 1 mole NaOH is 40g/mol...with the same mass of NaOH, you can trap more CO2 using LiOH.
