The planets of our solar system, excluding Pluto, move in orbits which

(a)   all lie within a few degrees of one plane.
(b)   all lie precisely in one plane, the ecliptic plane, since they were formed in this configuration.
(c)   are inclined to one another and to the plane of the Earth's orbit by up to 30, hence their erratic motions in our sky.
