What is believed to be the origin of the unusual, very large, jumbled, hilly region found on Mercury?

(a)   Seismic waves from an asteroid impact became focussed there, disrupting the landscape.
(b)   The hills and valleys result from volcanoes and lava flows created by an underlying hot spot in Mercury's mantle.
(c)   Shrinkage of Mercury as its large iron core cooled produced faulting and slippage in this area, creating hills and valleys.
