Which features highlight and outline the spiral arms in a spiral galaxy?

(a)   Very bright, hot, O and B stars and their surrounding nebulae.
(b)   Many very old, bright, red stars that have burned off their dust and gas clouds and have been orbiting the galactic center for long enough that they have settled into spiral arms.
(c)   Hot gas and dust clouds, which have been condensed and heated by a spiral density wave but which do not yet contain stars.
