2 -- In the stomach food continues to be turned to liquid so that it may ultimately be absorbed into the blood stream. The process of absorption begins in the small intestine. The start of carbohydrate digestion occurs in the mouth. The stomach secretes hydrochloride, not sulfuric acid.
