4 -- Antidepressant drugs, including tricyclics and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), may help relieve abdominal pain associated with IBS. There is no indication the patient is depressed. Bowel disorders are not usually cause depression. The patient is asking for clarification and this response does not address the patient’s concern.
