Prokaryotes have only a single circular chromosome.  There is no spindle apparatus formed to move the copied chromosomes apart.  The daughter chromosomes are attached to the plasma membrane and as the cell enlarges, the copies are separated from one another.  A new cell wall forms by growing inward from the existing cell wall.

Meiosis and mitosis involve the use of microtubules to separate the copies of the multiple linear chromosomes.
