1. (A) What is one example of a mutualistic symbiosis between an animal and microorganisms?  (B) What is one other example of a symbiosis between any type of organism and at least one microorganism?  For both (A) and (B): How does each organism benefit from the association?  Be sure to also give a detailed description the microorganism and give its full genus and species name.  The description might include mentioning anything about its cell wall (gram positive, gram negative, etc.) or other interesting structures and/or behaviors.

Deep sea tube worms use sulfur reducing bacteria to get energy from hydrothermal vent effluent.  Bacteria get a safe place to live, worms get food

Many types of plants (soy for instance) house nitrogen fixing bacteria in their roots.  Same deal, home for bacteria, usable N for the plants.

You'll have to do the digging for species names.  I can't do all of your homework for you Wink Face

E. coli and humans have a mutualistic relationship, in which the bacterium gets a food source and produces some vitamin K.  Termites could not digest wood without a gut full of Terahymena.
