Pathogen refers to harmful microorganisms such as virii or bacteria and specifically harmful microorganisms. You can just say microorganisms but that would be the general group, you can say a pathogen is a microorganism but a microorganism needn't be a pathogen because not all microorganisms are harmful.

It's like saying deer are animals while animals can be deer. But you don't see children in the zoo pointing at them and going 'Animal! Animal!'

The short answer is they thought it would sound more legiable if they used greek
Pathos: means to suffer, to expierence emotion
So other words the name is greek for the suffer organism, or to expeirence suffering. The reason it gets a name is because not all organisms are bad. Some are good, some bad, and some don't really do anything one way or another.

Pathogen is the term for those bacteria causing pathos or harm.
There are helpful microorganisms fro decomposers to yogurt bacteria.
