Zinc metal can be obtained from zinc oxide
(ZnO) by reacting the oxide with the element
carbon. The products of the reaction are Zn
and CO2. What mass of zinc oxide is needed
to react completely with 2.05 mol of carbon?

Balanced equation:

2 ZnO + C Rightwards Arrow Zn + CO2

2.05 mol C X (2 ZnO / 1 C) = 4.10 mol ZnO

4.10 mol ZnO X 81.4 g/mol = 334 g ZnO
