Consider the cross section of a current carrying wire as shown below. The current is carried by the 2 gray sections (0<r<a, b<r<c).  The current, i = 10 mA, is in the direction out of the page, half of it flowing in the inner wire and half in the outer shell.

(a) a)   Assuming that the 3 sections have the same thickness, i.e. 0a=ab=bc=1cm, calculate the magnetic field for 0<r<a, a<r<b, b<r<c, and r>c.  (Hint: think Ampere’s Law)     [4 marks]

(b) Sketch the variation of B vs. r in the diagram below. [2 marks]
