Most "natural" pesticides are derived from plants which use these chemicals to deter insect attacks. The most common is nicotine. Nicotine sulfate is a potent poison and "black leaf" was the trade name. Pyrethrin is a substance from a kind of chrysanthemum. Sabidilla is another natural pesticide. Neem oil comes from the seeds of a tropical tree. The latest generation of pesticides alter the chemistry of natural substances. Chlorinating pyrethrin produces a semi-synthetic pesticide.

pesticide is not the right term. a pesticide is an agent that can kills insects harming a plant or group of plants, and this is commercially made by man. plants are capable of protecting themselves from predators or other harm caused by animals and this is through allelopathy. it is a type of defense mechanism of plants in which they produce harmful or toxic substances that creates a negative effect on insects or predators.

Some plants have been genetically modified to produce "Bt toxin" - by inserting a gene from bacteria. This toxin kills insects.
