Let’s suppose a college student named Abby found one part of Chapter 11 to be hard for her as she studied it this week, specifically the section on comprehension processes. Why might that section have been challenging for Abby?

A fair amount of the terminology was not in her background information, there was high proposition density, and her motivation was not particularly high.

Abby lacked schema availability and cohesion. Furthermore, the text lacked examples to clarify major points.

Abby has anaphora, a type of comprehension difficulty found with expository text. With anaphora, material with a heavy concept load is particularly challenging.

The text contained superordinate units and lexical items.
