The patient has an in-line catheter for suctioning. The patient indicates that she needs to be suctioned and the nurse is able to hear loud crackles throughout all of her lung fields. Rank the following steps in order.

3,5,1,2,4 -- With an in-line catheter, the procedure is as follows: While wearing exam gloves, attach the catheter to suction tubing. Adjust the oxygen to 100%; allow three breaths. Manipulate the catheter through the plastic shield, insert the catheter without applying suction until resistance is met; apply suction while slowly withdrawing the catheter with a twirling motion. Suction for no longer than 10 seconds, and then allow the patient to rest for three to five breaths. Repeat the procedure as needed for a total of no more than three times. Remove suction tubing from the catheter, clear the tubing, turn off suction, and remove and discard gloves.
