2 -- The patient has an open, exposed bone fracture that has been exposed to contaminants of dirt. The length of delay in treatment further impacts the patient’s exposure to bacteria. This patient is at risk for infection that can delay healing and possibly result in osteomyelitis that can ultimately cause a loss of limb.
