3. strabismus

This is when the eyes are not in sync with each other and one tends to be pulled into its own gravity. One eye is usually normal while the other may be in the inner or outer corner of the eye. This is commonly associated with the "lazy eye" or those who are "cross eyed"

(1) is when the eye has difficulty focusing on things, the eyes are in alignment

2) is also known as farsightedness, the eyes are in alignment

and (4) is nearsightedness and the eyes also are in alignment

Strabismus is a weakening of the eye muscles that causes the eye to deviate inward toward the nose when focusing on an object. The cover-uncover test is used to assess for the condition. To conduct the test, hold a pen or a finger about 1 foot from the eyes and ask the person to focus on that object. Cover one of the patient’s eyes and note any movement in the uncovered eye. As the cover is removed, assess for movement in the eye that was just uncovered. Presbyopia is impaired near vision resulting from a loss of elasticity of the lens related to aging. In younger patients, this condition is referred to as hyperopia (farsightedness). Myopia is the term used for nearsightedness.
