Please explain why behavioral characteristics often do not follow a simple Mendelian inheritance pattern from an animal perspective.

Because behavioural traits will not be qualitative traits. Unknown genes cause behaviours.

Mendelian inheritance patterns are seen in traits controlled by a single gene.

Behavior results from the combined input of many genes, it is polygenic, so does not have discrete ratios but a continuous distribution of variants in a normal distribution or bell curve pattern.
