Single gene traits produce distinctive, discontinuous ratios of progeny.

Polygenic traits produce a continuous range that is graphed as a binomial curve. They show a normal distribution or bell shaped curve where most progeny have the average value but there are individuals at each extreme.

Height is polygenic. The vast majority of individuals are average height with roughly equally diminishing numbers going to the extremes; dwarfs are as rare as giants.
