I'm a college student and was wondering if anyone here could discuss and answer questions I had about majoring in biology.

Ive been interested in biology for some time now. Ive taken many science classes in high school and some in college. I enjoy agriculture and plant genetics but wanted to know the pros and cons of pretty much everything.

Would you advise majoring and persuing a career in biology and related fields?

Also when I receive my AA from college I would like to know what colleges are known for biology.

Ive googled all of these questions but would like reassurance from real people

I would advice it only if you're willing to study it in the long run. You will need to go above and beyond a biology degree; once you earn your degree within four years, you'll need to earn your masters and then PhD. This will take 7+ years to complete. If you stop with just a science degree, you'll be very limited in your career options. What state are you living in? I would like to make local recommendations rather than nation-wide.

If you have that mentality, you'll need to remain committed. Most post-secondary institutions in Florida are pretty good with biology, most often in marine biology, so you should be able to find something in your state. Florida State University has an excellent biology program and graduates program to follow up. You're better off staying local -- it's cheaper in the long haul and the education is the same almost everywhere you go (esp. for biology majors).
