We did not dissect a frog in class, but our professor wants us to answer these questions. Any help would be greatly appreciated  Slight Smile

  • Which region of the dissected frog had the highest intrinsic rate of contraction?
  • The greatest regularity or rhythmicity?
  • How do these properties correlate with the duties of a pacemaker?
  • Is this region the pacemaker of the frog heart?
  • Which region had the lowest intrinsic rate of contraction?

Which region had the lowest intrinsic rate of contraction?

I'm guessing the ventricle.

Which region of the dissected frog had the highest intrinsic rate of contraction?

I'm guessing the sinus venosus. In addition, this region would have the greatest automaticity and rhythmicity.

Is this region the pacemaker of the frog heart?

Yes.

The human pacemaker (SA node) has automaticity, rhythmicity, and the highest depolarization rate in the heart.
