How could the climatograph describing the biome found in the Amazon explain the high or low fertility of the soils there?

The biome of the Amazon is tropical rainforest, the climatograph for which is characterized by the enormous amount of rainfall and high temperatures throughout the year. The heavy rains leach minerals and nutrients out of the topsoil and move them quickly down to the water table, out of reach of most plants' roots. High temperatures speed the decomposition of leaf litter and the uptake of nutrients by plants, so amounts of humus remain small and the topsoil layer remains thin.
