Post the questions for those of us not privy to the book.  We maybe could help.

hi,
i've worked out 3.13. here's problem 3.28:

-An athlete performing a long jump leaves the ground at a 32.9∘ angle and lands 7.68m away.
1/What was the takeoff speed?
2/If this speed were increased by just 3.0%, how much longer would the jump be?

I've try different formula but I couldnt get it to work. Maybe it involves manipulating the formulas and numbers but I'm not sure how to approach it correctly.

Part 1 attached.  Try to work out part 2 with what I've given you; if you can't, I'll help you, but I think it will help you to be able to do the second part, now having seen this example.

Fairly difficult question, btw.

Thank you!
Although I sorted out with my professor and it was my miscalculation while using the equation:

Displacement(y) = tan(theta)*displacement(x) - [g/(2* initial v square * cos(theta) square)]*displacement(x) sq

The answer is 9.08 and it's correct. But then i try the part B using original formula to solve for displacement(x) but it was wrong. Please help. Thanks, again!
