1.  The foramen ovale is a opening between the right atrium and the left atrium of the fetal heart. Some of the blood entering the right atrium flows directly into the left atrium, bypassing pulmonary circulation. 
2.  The ductus arteriosus is a vessel connecting the pulmonary trunk and the aorta. Blood that happens to enter the right ventricle is pumped into the pulmonary trunk, supposedly on its way to the lungs. However, that blood is transported from the pulmonary trunk through ductus arteriosus into the aorta
