Basically mitosis is for asexual reproduction and the cell just duplicates its genetic material to create more cells with the same genetic material (regeneration). Meiosis is for making babies and populating the human race by sexual reproduction. In meiosis, the chromosomes are duplicated, then separated, then separated again. Basically since there are two halfs (sperm + egg), it forms a zygote.

The animal cell division separates the cytoplasm by making a cleavage burrow while the plant cell division requires the production of a cell plate (because plants need cell walls).

Hope this helps!    Slight Smile
