I have come across the equation for calculating the energy per photon; E = hf but I have also come across another equation where you calculate the energy density within the magnetic and electric fields and add them together: Total potential Energy (Utotal) = E0xcos(kz - wt) + B0ycos(kz - wt). What's the difference between the two and is one more accurate than the other for calculating the energy within light?
