Why did Alexander stop the attempted conquest of India?

  A) Revolts in the former Persian Empire were on the rise and needed to be quelled.
  B) The death of his mother Olympia in Macedon forced his return.
  C) The assassination of his wife Roxanne and infant son
  D) Alexander retreated at the frontier of India because his men revolted. They wanted to return home to Macedonia, and the crossing of the Himalayas was far too difficult to achieve without great loss of life.
  E) The task was too great even for Alexander. He retired.
