Why was the Battle of Saratoga in September 1777 considered a decisive military victory for the patriot cause?

  A) By eliminating a significant British force, the American patriots proved to France and Spain that the Americans could stand up to the British army and deserved diplomatic recognition and military assistance.
  B) After the decisive Battle of Saratoga, the British began their long retreat from all of the colonies and began to initiate peace negotiations with the Americans.
  C) After the Battle of Saratoga, General Washington directed that the American army should concentrate all of its military efforts in the Northeast and Middle Atlantic colonies and forego military actions in the Mississippi River Valley and the South.
  D) After the Battle of Saratoga, it became clear that only army strategies and battles, not naval strategies or battles, would be crucial to determining the course of the war.
