Rationale: Octreotide acetate (Sandostatin) is used to reduce growth hormone levels in clients with acromegaly. The most common side effects of this medication are diarrhea, nausea, gallstone formation, and abdominal discomfort. Hypertension, although rare, may occur. Constipation, bradycardia, and dyspnea are not associated with use of this medication.
