A client with a colostomy has been taught and successfully demonstrated colostomy care. The doctor has given the client permission to change the apparatus, but the charge nurse instructs the staff to perform colostomy care.

When the client does not object to the staff performing care, the nurse caring for the client encourages the client to respond to the charge nurse by stating: 1. I have been trained to change the apparatus, and I want to continue..
   2. You have no right to treat me this way. I have been trained to change the apparatus..
   3. I will report you to the doctor who said I could change my own apparatus..
   4. I will change my own apparatus whether you like it or not..
