Compartment syndrome is a form of neurovascular impairment that may lead to permanent injury of an affected limb caused by progressive constriction of blood vessels and nerves. Signs and symptoms include severe pain unrelieved by the prescribed narcotic analgesic, sluggish capillary refill, weak pulses, and numbness below the casted limb.
