Ugh, the Mirror is horrible. That said the story itself...wow, I hadn't even heard of that, it's even more horrible.

On a related note, Indian women used to set themselves on fire and throw themselves on top of their husband if he died earlier than her. If she didn't she faced living a life of shame.

The truth comes out! For the longest time you believed in spontaneous combustion, and for the longest time we've tried convincing you it's fake. This is a step forward for you

Well you haven't convinced me that this case is fake.

For example, what if the sweat gland cells produced a large amount of reactive metabolites?

Sweat glands don't do that. They produce sweat.

This article indicates that a woman was responsible for setting the child on fire - unless I read it wrong.

I know they produce sweat, I'm just wondering what'd happen if the sweat gland cells due to some defect/disease produced large concentrations of reactive metabolic products eg. hydrogen peroxide (a youtube video shows leather igniting shortly after when hydrogen peroxide dries on it)

What if, what if.

Sounds to me like some sort of sci-fi experiment.

It's unlikely and would never, ever happen.
