BIO-110 Writing Assignment
A.)The division or discipline that are used in this article deal with biochemistry, medicine, rare diseases, physiological disorders and a hint of immune system. Examples of PANS being a rare disorder is that no doctor had ever seen something like it before. They had been misdiagnosing it for months, confusing it with ADHD and OCD until the Stanford and pediatric rheumatologist Jennifer Frankovich ran constant tests on Paul in the psych ward.
B.) The idea this article is trying to convoy to us is that infections can trigger immune attacks on kids brains, causing severe psychiatric disorders. It also explains the process and struggle with finding a new disease and playing trial and error with it.
C.) This article concludes how they overcame Paul's four years of violent rages, by tamping down his immune systems that were too overactive. It also describes how with the technology we have today, we have the power to catch on to a new disease and run the appropriate test before that patient is lead astray in the wrong direction with misleading diagnosis’
D.) For most people that are going to read this article, I think that it could be somewhat intriguing to them. It would be interesting to them because it is one of those diseases that is still being looked into with great detail and still some of it is unknown. The fact that it could happen to anyone and cause an immense amount of trouble for the person can really grab someone's attention and cause them to look more into it, even if they weren’t crazy about science
E. / F.) We personally find this article interesting for almost the same reason as we stated others would. Especially because this is a big part of what we are learning about in our class it really reaches out to us because we have a good grip on what most of the article is saying. We also both have younger siblings that it could affect as well and we kind of feel for anyone who is having to experience it. I think just as anyone else we are glad to see that doctors have put up a fight against it and have been learning more and more since Paul Nelson came to Frankovich.
G.) I do not think either of us have any more interest on searching for information on PANS. But we both discussed we would be interested on reading about newly discovered diseases and the process in which they are overcome. Nonetheless when you read a story like Hidden Invaders, it will always draw a peak of interest into what else can possibly happen.
