Students are encouraged to post a link to a cartoon or reply to a posting from another student.  For Current Events Two, find a cartoon which talks about the impact of worldview and ideology on what it means to be a citizen today. Your response must include the following: Include the link and/or political cartoon Summarize your chosen image, explaining the ideological perspective of the cartoon the cartoon specifically challenges or support principles of liberalism or collectivism (specific principles, please) Explain to what extent you agree with the perspective of the political cartoon, including at least one reason for your position. Your writing should be not more than three (3) paragraphs (2-3 suggested). This cartoon shows a man and a woman at a checkout lane. The woman is wearing two pins one says “I voted” and the other says “now I have the right to complain”. This shows uses collectivism, and this is seen through the woman using her right to vote. This is a right not available to women in every country and because she has that right it is important as a citizen of her country, that she uses that right to influence her government. This image supports both collective responsibility and collective interest. It is a collective responsibility that everyone has to vote and it helps to shape the country. Voting has an impact on things like civil rights, social justice, and how policies can change. Voting is also in collective interest because it contributes to how the country is run and away gets put forward. These are all important to put one’s say on. I agree with this source fully. I think that voting is very important for citizens to do when the time comes because it can influence what occurs in your country. It is a right that has been fought for to give to everyone and having the opportunity to change things if you are unhappy is a part of modern-day politics. I think to be a citizen in modern-day this is a very important right because it allows for the choice to help influence who runs the country and how we are represented on a global level.
