Mapping the Brain Many students, especially those with little background in the sciences, find it a challenge to keep track of the location of the major parts of the brain. One simple way to reinforce learning of brain structure and function is to locate and label the various parts on a diagram of the brain. For this activity, locate each part of the brain listed below and then label and color code each part using crayons, pencils, or markers. Also indicate the function of each part on the diagram. This exercise is very useful for helping students memorize brain anatomy, and the color-coded diagram serves as a helpful study guide. Label the diagram of the brain to show or answer the following questions: Where is the front of the brain? Where is the back? Label the cerebral cortex and cerebellum and describe their functions. Cerebral cortex functions: -Higher thought Processes and sensory input interpretations. Cerebellar functions: 9358590-92820-Controls Involuntary rapid movements and voluntary movements in rapid succession. Label the four lobes of the cerebral cortex. Label the motor cortex and describe its function. -Sends motor commands to muscles to the SNS, as well as higher mental functions such as planning, personality, memory, decision making, and language. Label the visual cortex and describe its function. -Processes visual information as well as Makes sense of visual information. Label the auditory cortex and describe its function. -Processes Auditory information also makes sense of auditory information. Label the somatosensory cortex and describe its function. -Process information from skin and receptors for touch, temperature, and body position. Label the brain stem. What is its function? -The brain stem is the pons and the medulla and controls life-sustaining functions, and coordinates movements on the left and right sides of the body, it also influences sleep and dreaming. -885825-9042409341670602675464007011390454418670212220523623501659652803350195768516146302098805129675022154452532603668751990725524891027721803383825295110035256653239820297702514898601962425117306034782519638021399051834202211055405401137665117990028406601074606522202555460169460219258068030041459405579001182601960820
