Events of the postabsorptive state.

Description
Macromolecules formed during the absorptive state are broken down to supply monomers that can be used for energy. This begins with glycogenolysis—the breakdown of glycogen into glucose. The breakdown products of triglycerides and proteins can be used for energy directly in the case of fatty acids or indirectly by their conversion in the liver to glucose by gluconeogenesis.
