Anthrax bacteria (Bacillus anthracis) showing the rod and spore. This gram-positive, spore-forming bacterium is the cause of anthrax. There are two forms of anthrax. Cutaneous anthrax is acquired when anthrax spores come into contact with skin or mucous membranes. Inhalation anthrax is the result of inhalation of anthrax spores.
