Description
Aspartame. This artificial sweetener aspartame (found in sugar substitutes like NutraSweet) is composed of two amino acids—aspartic acid (Asp) and phenylalanine (Phe). After consumption, the breakdown of the sweetener releases both amino acids. Phe is the compound to be avoided by people with phenylketonuria; thus aspartame poses a danger to these individuals
